BENIDORM’s creator Derren Litten revealed Tim Healy momentarily died after falling ill while filming the show in Spain.
Tim plays the programme’s loveable drag queen Lesley and was in the midst of filming scenes for the show when he was struck down by a mystery illness.
The show’s writer Derren Litten has revealed that Tim “flat lined” and was put into intensive care for a month.
“They operated on Tim and it didn’t go well at all. He died. He flat lined,” Derren said.
“They had to resuscitate him. He was in intensive care for a month.”
The cast of Benidorm were filming series nine when Tim fell ill, and had his wife Joan by his side throughout the ordeal.
Darren continued to Cool Fm Spain: “He was incredibly unwell. We had shot about three episodes with Tim.
“I got a phone call from Tim’s wife, Joan, at the hotel and she said he was unwell, doubled up in pain and can’t move.
“I jumped into my car and went down there. He was in a pretty bad way.”
Tim was taken to a private hospital and was in a coma for days.
His ex-wife Denise Welch reportedly flew to visit him after it was reported he was “fighting for his life”.
Once his condition stabilised, he flew to a hospital in Manchester.
Tim was then written out of series nine, before making a full recovery and returning for series 10 early this year.
And his co-star Janine Duvitski said shortly after his recovery: “I saw Tim because I’m rehearsing an episode of ‘Open All Hours’.
“So I saw him last week and he’s lost a lot of weight, he was really poorly. He said it’s not a good way of losing a lot of weight but he’s back working now.”
